My first role in the NHS was a Financial Management Assistant during my sandwich year at University. I never planned to have a career in Workforce Planning, I fell into it by accident upon graduating and decided to stick with it after realising the “art and science” combination to workforce planning was rather exciting! I have worked in several “Workforce” related roles over the years; such as a Workforce Analyst, Project Manager and Workforce Planner and across various organisations from the PCT’s to the SHA’s and Trusts to Vanguards and the ICB’s. During this time in the NHS, I obtained a PG Diploma in Strategic Workforce Planning and trained across the country on a workforce planning tool which you may have heard of called WRaPT. This was the significant part of my career where I met Colin and the other GE folk. I worked in the WRaPT team for a number of years up until the pandemic. I was then approached to assist the governments Covid-19 programme with their Workforce Planning for the Supply Chain and Logistics of the Testing Programme. As the nation adjusted to the reality of living with Covid I began to search for my next opportunity. I wanted a change from the public sector and applied for a position in Amazon- still in a workforce related role, as Forecasting and Capacity planning programme manager. It was fascinating working on a large-scale operation and planning for the Latin America region, however I soon realised that the role did not align with my values of being able to help others with the same impact as the public sector. I spoke to Colin and this is where my Carados journey began.
