Half day course with no pre-learning. An introduction specifically for integrated health and social care – and suitable for anyone. Provides an overview of workforce planning including:

  • What is workforce planning?

  • The barriers to workforce planning and how to overcome them

  • Different approaches to workforce planning

  • Interventions – how to solve gaps in your workforce

Introduction to Health and Care Workforce Planning (1 day)

One day course with no pre-learning. Specifically designed for integrated health and social care – and suitable for anyone. 

Provides an introduction to the main aspects of workforce planning, and its 6 main elements. Specific overview topics include:

  • What is workforce planning?

  • Developing a plan

  • Data and modelling

  • Interventions

  • Workforce redesign 

  • Front-line workforce planning

  • Workforce hubs and governance

Frontline Workforce Planning (1 day)

Specifically designed for integrated health and social care. Suitable for any staff with direct responsibility for people – team leaders, ward managers, practice managers, service managers etc. 

Covers the main aspects of workforce planning for team leaders in an integrated care environment:

  • What is workforce planning and its importance to managers

  • Working in integrated care systems

  • Introduction to the main skills needed – Giving feedback, permissions, leadership, rostering, building a team, managing change, balancing demand and capacity, diversity and inclusion.

Foundation Workforce Planning (3 day)

3 day course with no pre learning. Designed for integrated health and social care – and suitable for anyone. 

Provides participants with a foundation-level basic understanding of workforce planning and its main elements, with a focus on a step-by-step approach to undertaking workforce planning and workforce redesign. Participants can gain certification after using the approaches to improve workforce planning in practice.

Day 1 – Introduction, Different approaches, Workforce data

Day 2 – Step by step workforce planning and redesign

Day 3 – Front line planning, Interventions, workforce hubs.

Practical Workforce Planning (8 half days over 16 weeks)

8 half day sessions over 16 weeks, while completing a workforce planning or redesign in your own area.

For anyone that needs to develop a workforce plan or undertake workforce redesign, this course develops skills in using an operational approach to go from identifying the issues through to implementing the solution:

  • Introduction, different approaches, setting up your project

  • Current state planning, workforce data 

  • Current state planning recap, activity and demand data

  • Future state planning

  • Future state modelling

  • Developing the plan, interventions

  • Implement the plan, governance, workforce hub

  • Presentation of findings.

Develop a Workforce Plan (1 day)

1 day course with no pre-learning. Specifically designed for health and care professionals who need to develop a workforce plan – for a team, a pathway, an organisation or a whole system, this course covers:

  • What workforce planning is, and where plan development is useful.

  • Developing a plan

  • Writing a plan

It covers the data you need, the sections of a plan, tips for quick creation and how to make a plan that has an impact.

Workforce Redesign (1 day)

In this overview of workforce redesign, we teach an overview of the WRaPT Redesign approach:

  • What workforce planning is, and where redesign fits within it

  • Different approaches to workforce redesign

  • The WRaPT: Redesign approach

    • Scoping and mobilising

    • Understanding the current state

    • Developing the future state

    • Modelling the future

    • Planning and implementing

How to Use WRaPT (1 day)

As a standalone course, or as an add-on to the workforce redesign courses, we offer a practical course in how to use the workforce modelling tool, WRaPT.  This course takes you through the data you need, uploading and entering data, developing a baseline, building scenarios and reporting from the WRaPT tool, as well as introducing other available tools.

Workforce Plan for Execs (2 hours)

Workforce planning is a leadership issue. This interactive 2-hour course is designed for busy executive teams across health and care and focuses on:

  • What is workforce planning and why it is important

  • The barriers to workforce planning, and what Executives can do to help

  • An overview of a system or organisation wide approach to workforce planning

Workforce Hub Development (1 day)

Workforce Hubs or Collaboratives in Health & Care are approaches that help ensure that workforce planning is being done well across systems. Setting out the elements, the staff, the governance, the tasks, options and benefits of these approaches, using real-life examples from implementing these in real systems, this course provides a useful foundation in their development.
